No Gluten? No Problem: New Allergen-Free Cookbooks

Food allergies are on the rise, and millions of us are shunning everyday staples like eggs, dairy, nuts, fish, soy, and wheat -- and perhaps sadly contemplating our muffin-free futures.

Well, weep no more: A few new cookbooks offer advice on navigating food allergies without sacrificing old favorites.

Baking Tips
In "The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook," food writer Cybele Pascal offers egg- and dairy-free baking tips handy for anybody looking to scale back on animal products, as well as recipes for morning glory muffins, blackberry cobbler, red velvet cake, cinnamon rolls, and other classics.

Cookies and Cakes
Elizabeth Gordon's "Allergy-Free Desserts" is another for sweet-tooth types, serving up more than 80 recipes for cakes, pies, quick breads, and cookies made sans gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, or eggs.

The cute-as-a-cupcake book offers the practical (hints on clearing allergens from your cupboards) as well as the decadent (coconut panna cotta and raspberry cardamom sandwich cookies).

Help for Chronic Inflammation
With "The Gluten-Free Good Health Cookbook," authors Annalise G. Roberts and Claudia Pillow, Ph.D., present a complete meal plan that cuts out wheat to help tame chronic inflammation. The featured recipes take you from breakfast to midnight snack, with everything from buckwheat pancakes to pesto brie pizza with jalapeno peppers.

The BEST gluten free cookbook is "Gluten Free Mama's Best Baking Recipes" by Rachel Carlyle-Gauthier. You would never guess the recipes were gluten-free once you taste them. Yummy!
