Dried Fruit and Nut Bites

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mixed dried fruit
  • 2 cups raw mixed nuts and seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Coarse salt
  • 1/3 cup raw sesame seeds

Directions

  1. In a food processor, pulse dried fruit; transfer to a bowl.

  2. Pulse nuts and seeds until finely chopped and add to dried fruit with a dash of cinnamon and a pinch of salt.

  3. Knead together and form 1-inch balls; roll each ball in sesame seeds.

    I agree - this isn't as easy to put together as it sounds. I'm thinking more fruit, less nuts/seeds. I also added a touch of honey to help with binding, put it in the fridge overnight - still had to work to get it to all stick together.

    Just made these and they do not stick together as balls very well so I pressed them into a 9x9 square dish and put them into the freezer. I will be cutting them into bars after a few hours and storing in the freezer as this kind of snack tends to crumble when kept any other way.

    I've been doing this recipe for ever but with date paste, ground seeds and nuts and rolled in unsweetened coconut shreds. My kids love it too. And for a non guilty chocolate flavor I add a little bit of carob powder. Delicious snack that is easy to take on a pick nick and very easy to prepare in advance and store in the fridge for a couple of days.

    This snack recipe hits the spot! My version was simple - dried figs and raisans for the fruit; peanuts, almonds and cashews for the nuts. I added coarse salt, cinnamon and cayenne. Great sweet, salty snack with a hit of spice! I definitely had extra nut mix left like a lot of others have commented, so I just rolled the balls in that.

    Agreed that these are yummy and easy, but beware! I broke my small food processor grinding up the fruit (I tried unsweetened pieces of mango and pineapple in it). I'd say the appropriate ratio of fruit mix to nut mix is more like 3:2. I threw out A LOT of the leftover nut mixture.

    This is a great snack!
    It will quieten your sweet tooth for a bit and they're easy to make and to transport (to work or wherever).
    The nice part is also that you can kind of vary the flavors too.

    A couple of days ago I made a mix of dried apricots/blanched almonds and rolled them in unsweetened coconut.
    Really nice!

    I am eating these as we speak and they are amazing! So easy to make too. I just used a bag of Mariani mixed fruit (pears, plums, apricots) and Planters unsalted mixed nuts (pecans, almonds, brazil nuts). I rolled most in sesame seeds and some in coconut. Delish! And just a few fills the hunger void.

    I use mostly dates and some cranberries. Do not attempt to mix in a vita-mix! I should have known better. Also I rolled mine in unsweetened coconut. My 2 yr old twins like them too.

    Absolutely easy and incredibly flavorful and sweet. I used a mix of almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, golden raisins and apricots. I'm even thinking of preparing them as a healthy alternative to chocolates for Valentine's Day treats.

    I rolled mine in ground flax seeds instead of sesame seeds. What a great feel-good snack!

    Yum! Beware - most dried cranberries have added sugar. I used apricots, apples, and prunes. The stickiness of the prunes holds the mixture together. For the nuts, I used walnuts, almonds, and pumpkin seeds. I also found I needed only about 1 1/2 cups of nuts/seeds. I'm going to keep these on hand from now on!

    These have been my go to after exercising - they are portable and tasty. I took post advice and make first batch with craisins, apricots and raisins - they were better than second batch that was apricots, blueberries and apples. No problem making into balls if your apricots are moist.

    These are super tasty and incredibly easy. I used cranberries, raisins, strawberries, prunes, apricots, and dried coconut for the fruit, and walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, flax seeds, and sesame seeds for the nuts and seeds. They stuck together really well, I think because the prunes were very soft and sticky. I even forgot to add the salt and the cinnamon and they're still delicious! This will be a year-round snack in my house, for sure.

    I used cranberries, raisins, apricots, slivered almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. It stuck together well with some firm squeezes. They're so delicious!

    I made this recipe with dried cranberries,dried cherries,almonds and pecans. I couldn't get it to stick together to roll into balls so I added 1 tsp of almond butter.Yummo!
