Coffee's Health Benefits

Good Buzz?
The latest excuse to keep up your two-cup-a-day habit: A research review from Gastroenterology links coffee consumption with a lowered risk for liver cancer. Preliminary studies have also linked coffee to a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, and Parkinson's disease. But the brew may not act as an elixir for everyone: Found to speed bone loss and heighten stress in certain populations, coffee-guzzling can also disrupt sleep and lead to digestive troubles in some people, says Donald Abrams, M.D., of the University of California, San Francisco's Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. "Listen carefully to what your body tells you," suggests Abrams. "Whenever you repeatedly suffer adverse effects from ingesting anything, it's best to avoid it."
