Herb of the Month: Passion Flower

Despite its evocative name and exotic, almost otherworldly appearance, this traditional South American herb tends to calm passions rather than ignite them.

A gentle but effective relaxant, passionflower can be used anytime of day to settle a racing mind or at night to set the stage for a peaceful sleep. Brew a tea from the dried leaves or flowers (two tablespoons of dried herbs per cup) and sip throughout the day. For insomnia, use the tincture form (a teaspoon in warm water). Note: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid passionflower.
