When was the last time you spent quality time outside? If you're like most Americans, it wasn't recently enough.
According to a new report published by the National Academy of Sciences, participation in outdoor recreation has declined by up to 25 percent since the 1980s. Reverse the trend with a camping adventure -- and keep the trip green.
Start with the ReSource Series React Daypack from Osprey Packs ($74), which includes recycled polyester sourced from old soda bottles. Reclaimed-plastic bottles also figure into the fabric of Marmot's EcoPro Sleeping Bag ($165), while the Solar Lantern ($59) provides a light source for three and a half hours when fully charged (no electricity required).
Repel mosquitoes naturally with the plant oils found in Jason's Quit Bugging Me! spray ($9), and keep clean with Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Soap ($2.49), which works as a cleanser, shampoo, and toothpaste. Of course, no camping trip is complete (and no camper happy) without s'mores. Make yours with organic marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers from Whole Foods.
