When there's not enough time for class and not enough motivation to practice on your own, these DVDs offer the next best thing.
For the adventurous yogi, Fluid Power (Acacia, 2007), a two-disc set from Shiva Rea, gives four hours of invigorating yoga sequences you can piece together in innumerable ways using the clever "yoga matrix" function. With many periods of improvisation, Rea's free-form style is great for anyone craving creative expression (and not so great if you dread non-structured, off-the-cuff movement).
Traditionalists will likely appreciate Insight Yoga with Sarah Powers (Pranamaya, 2005). It's one-stop shopping for a wide range of abilities, with three vigorous vinyasa (flow) practices, two quiet yin yoga practices, and a 30-minute meditation to choose from.
If you're a true beginner, get a gentle and thorough introduction with Max Strom's Strength, Grace, Healing (Megaforce, 2006). This two-disc set provides you with a choice between a long or short practice and offers mini-workshops on the more challenging poses, making the DVD nearly as personalized as a live yoga class.
