Buttery, ripe-for-fall pears are rich in sorbitol, a natural sugar compound that moisturizes hair and nourishes the scalp, says Janice Cox, author of "Natural Beauty at Home." Try a simple pear-based treatment once a week to keep strands healthy.

DIY It

Revitalize dull hair -- and give it that shiny, just-walked-out-of-the-salon look with this simple mixture. Combine 1 fresh pear, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, and 2 cups water in a blender until smooth. (Pick darker pear varieties like red anjou for the most age-defying antioxidants to help the hair.) Strain the mixture and discard solids. To use, massage through your hair after shampooing and before conditioning. Rinse well.
