Set a steamer basket in a large pot. Fill with enough water to come just below basket; bring to a boil. Add potatoes; reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until tender, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to a food processor.
Combine chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini, oil, cumin, and garlic in the food processor. Puree, about 1 minute; thin with water if necessary. Season with salt and pepper and let cool; refrigerate, in an airtight container, up to 1 week. Serve with pita and crudites.
Great recipe. I microwaved the sweet potatoes...works fine. I added more garlic. I added splenda brand brown sugar (about 1/4 cup) and some cinnamon. Love love love.
Wow, super disappointing. Very little hummus flavor. I doubled the garlic and added more cumin & salt... nothing. Bummer.
I'd agree with hannaherrett. This is the best hummus I've ever had. It's just so much more bold and flavorful than the store bought hummuses. Eating this hummus made me realize "this is how it's supposed to taste." Great recipe.
Very disappointed. It took a heck of a lot more olive oil than 2 tablespoons! I don't think I'll ever use it again.
I didn't have chickpeas so I used white beans. Came out very good but I think next time I might put a little more garlic. I made my own tahini for the first time and it was so simple. I also made the almond poppy seed crackers. They go really well with the hummus. I can't wait to make this for the next party.
I tried this recipe this afternoon and my mother went on about it for hours! She said it's the best hummus she's ever had, and we've had a lot of hummus.
Auntie Betty, I cooked my sweet potatoes in the oven and the hummus turned out fine so I imagine the microwave would work too.
I didn't have tahini so I used a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter and the hummus turned out delicious. I also forgot to add the lemon juice-still delicious. I am curious as to how it will taste with the lemon juice.
Awesome recipe! It is really delicious and healthy and can be used in so many ways. I highly recommend it.
This recipe is simple and superb! If using a blender instead of food processor I recommend halfing the recipe as it makes a LOT. Then you can add more water if necessary to get it to blend well. A full recipe is great to make too because portions can be frozen for later use. It's a great recipe to bring to a party, pot luck or just to eat for lunch. Really, really delicious!
Love this! Perfect for lunch wraps! http://www.fourgreensteps.com/community/recipes/sandwiches/hummus-wrap
How much is a 200 calorie serving?
People! RELAX! Simply replace the chickpeas with the sweet potato. THEN, you will be fine and able to enjoy a fabulous dish with friends and family.
Does anyone know of a reason the sweet potatoes can't be cooked in the microwave in preperation for this recipe?
This is a fabulous recipe!
