UNICEF Tap Project

Every day, 4,100 children die of water-related diseases, according to data from UNICEF, whose inspiring Tap Project works to bring clean and accessible water to millions around the world.

The Tap Project began in 2007, when a small group of restaurants asked their customers to donate $1 -- enough to provide a child with safe water for 40 days -- for the tap water they would normally enjoy for free.

Now, thousands of restaurants, dining patrons, and volunteers (including corporate, celebrity, and local-government supporters) have joined the effort. How can you help?

  • Dine out at a registered UNICEF Tap Project restaurant during World Water Week, March 21 to 27, 2010, and donate $1 or more for the tap water that you normally get for free
  • Text "Tap" to 864233 ("UNICEF") to make a $5 donation from your mobile phone
  • Donate online or register to become a UNICEF Tap Project volunteer at tapproject.org
