I hate it to say it, but the people complaining clearly have no experience with green smoothies or juices... this tasted similar to all the other ones I have made--aka great! It's definitely an acquired taste, so if this was your first green drink I recommend adding more fruit at first and gradually lessening it over time until you get used to the taste.
I was VERY scared to try this one, but it was surprisingly delicious! I followed the recipe exactly and wouldn't change a thing. I actually ran this through my juicer instead of a blender and it was a very smooth consistency.
I am looking for some other recipes that will help in me and my sister-n-law loosing weight,
Personally, I would use spinach instead of romaine... it has a much more neutral taste. The parsley is sort of strong too so maybe start wtih a few sprigs and work your way up with it. I would DEF add more fruit too . I keep frozen watermelon and use that instead of ice.
I read the review that said that this tasted horrible and got scared haha and I figured the reason was because of the green's residue, so what I did was juice the kale and romaine and blend pineapple, ginger and mango (a whole mango.. oops) and then added the juice to the blender with ice and voila! I know, it's a hassle cause now you have to wash more items but still.
It was very good!
So, nobody said that green juices were the best but we have to take them, righ?
Terrible. Tasted like a liquid salad. Next time, I'll add more fruit and forget the parsley... also, why romaine and not spinach? I always add spinach to my smoothies, disappointed that I bought a whole head of romaine when I could have just used my gigantic bag of spinach...
The other reviewers that said they had to chew their smoothie just have crappy blenders. I have a Vitamix and this smoothie recipe was no match. I added 1 cup of extra pineapple, used freshly juiced orange juice instead of water, and forgot the parsley. I thought I bought romaine, but couldn't find it, so I substituted spinach. I'm not sure if the ginger I used was just really fresh, but this was a spicy smoothie! Pretty tasty, my 7 year old liked it, so I shared it with her.
I didn't have the mango, but I added in two nectarines, 3 golden delicious apples, two handfuls of green grapes, and two heads of iceberg lettuce (for moisture) and it was perfect.
I tried making this! Haha - it was tasty - I just need a better blender : check it out : http://www.sweetpencil.com/2012/02/what-is-this-green/
This was good. I substituted about 3/4 cup of tropical carrot juice (no added sweeteners) for some of the water and it was quite good. Might even make it a breakfast staple!
Loved it, tested even better when I added ice.
At first I was leery of the bright green color but after a few sips it was really good and filling. I used fresh mango and pineapple. I liked it so much I had it again the next day to use up the rest of my kale.
I will have to try putting this thru the juicer as well, because I also felt like I was chewing my smoothie. My mango was rotten, so in a pinch I used a banana, which was tasty. I'm not totally turned off from this drink, it will just take some time to get used to.
(it was more like chewing down a smoothie than drinking it) I felt healthy for consuming my serving in the morning, but didn't particularly like it. No one else in the house would touch it due to the color!
After I put the whole thing through my juicer this was excellent.
