Tender-grilled Napa cabbage brushed with a bold Chinese mustard glaze and topped with fresh scallions for a smoky, flavorful dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons hot Chinese mustard

  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon finely grated garlic

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves

  • 2 small heads napa cabbage (about 2 pounds total), halved lengthwise

  • 1 large bunch scallions, roots trimmed (cut in half lengthwise if thick)

Directions

  • Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the hot Chinese mustard, agave nectar, olive oil, garlic, and chopped basil leaves until smooth. Set aside.
  • Grill the Cabbage and Scallions: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the napa cabbage halves and scallions with a little olive oil, then season lightly with salt and pepper. Grill the cabbage for 4-5 minutes per side until it develops nice char marks and becomes slightly tender. Grill the scallions for about 2-3 minutes until charred and soft.
  • Glaze and Serve: Transfer the grilled napa cabbage and scallions to a platter. Drizzle the mustard glaze generously over the vegetables. Garnish with extra fresh basil if desired and serve hot.
